IFMIF-DONES España Consortium and ALBA Synchrotron strengthen their strategic collaboration
Posted on |

The IFMIF-DONES España Consortium and the ALBA Synchrotron have sealed a strategic alliance to strengthen collaboration between two of Spain’s leading large-scale scientific infrastructures. This agreement establishes a stable framework for cooperation aimed at boosting innovation, advanced engineering, and knowledge transfer in high-impact technological fields.
The protocol was formalised by the Director of IFMIF-DONES Spain, Moisés Weber Suárez, and the Director of the ALBA Synchrotron, Caterina Biscari, who emphasised the importance of creating synergies between cutting-edge facilities to accelerate scientific and technological development.
The collaboration will focus particularly on key areas such as radiological licensing, radiation protection and safety, the development of advanced control systems, and complex infrastructure engineering and particle accelerator technologies. These areas represent shared challenges where cooperation will help optimise capabilities and exchange expertise.
Another major pillar of the agreement will be the promotion of scientific and technical talent. Both institutions will work together to train highly qualified personnel through training programs, professional exchanges, and joint educational initiatives that foster interdisciplinarity.
In addition, the alliance will strengthen the outreach dimension of both infrastructures by promoting joint communication and science dissemination activities, organising events, and coordinating participation in competitive R&D&I projects.
With this agreement, IFMIF-DONES and the ALBA Synchrotron consolidate their role as key pillars of Spain’s scientific and technological system, moving forward together to address new challenges in strategic fields such as fusion, materials science, and advanced technologies.
