Building site and project management were allocated for the construction of the first IFMIF-DONES buildings
The companies Edhinor SA and San Juan Arquitectura SL have been awarded the contract for the works and the project management for the construction of the first buildings of IFMIF-DONES, a scientific infrastructure to be implemented in the Metropolitan Industrial and Technological Park of Escúzar.
This action is carried out within the framework of the DONES-PRIME programme, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), whose objective is the construction of the first buildings and laboratories of IFMIF-DONES.
The resolution of these files will allow the start of the construction of the first three buildings that will make up the infrastructure: Administration and Visitors Building, Multipurpose Warehouse and Access Control Building, as well as the urbanisation of the area of action.

The Presidency of the Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Centre (CIEMAT), which is part of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, awarded the works for the buildings to the company Edhinor SA, for an amount, excluding taxes, of 11,296,650.55 euros.
In addition, the CIEMAT’s general secretariat decided to contract the services of the complete site management of the works to the company San Juan Arquitectura S.L., for an amount, excluding taxes, of 139,999.99 euros.
The preparatory work will begin in July, while construction on the IFMIF-DONES plot will start before the end of the summer.
IFMIF-DONES is a scientific facility whose objective is to qualify the materials used in future fusion reactors. In IFMIF-DONES, a particle accelerator will produce a powerful beam of deuterons that will hit a curtain of liquid lithium, producing an intense flux of high-energy neutrons, which will be used to irradiate the material samples located immediately behind the lithium curtain in the test modules.
