IFMIF-DONES and Escúzar Town Council Organise Public Outreach Event to Mark the Solar Eclipse

IFMIF-DONES, in collaboration with Escúzar Town Council, will host a public outreach event on 12 August to mark the solar eclipse that will be partially visible from the province of Granada. The initiative aims to bring science closer to the public and encourage interest in astronomy through an accessible and engaging event.

The programme will begin with a public lecture by Alejandro Barroso, to be held in the multi-purpose hall at Escúzar Town Hall. During his presentation, he will explain the science behind solar eclipses, the specific characteristics of this particular event, and the connection between stars and IFMIF-DONES.

At the end of the talk, attendees will receive certified eclipse glasses for the safe observation of the eclipse. The glasses have been provided through the collaboration between the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and ONCE, ensuring a safe and enjoyable viewing experience for all participants.

Following the lecture, attendees will move to the open area next to the multi-purpose hall, where they will be able to observe the eclipse. Although the eclipse will not be total in Granada, it will reach a partial phase, offering a unique opportunity to witness this remarkable astronomical event.

Through this initiative, IFMIF-DONES reaffirms its commitment to science outreach and its close ties with the local community, promoting activities that bring scientific knowledge closer to society while strengthening Escúzar’s position as a hub for science and innovation
