IFMIF-DONES safety systems progress through its Framework Agreement

The Framework Agreement for consultancy services and support in the design and implementation of IFMIF-DONES safety systems continues to make strong progress, consolidating its role as a key element in the safe and orderly development of the project’s scientific and technological infrastructure.

The specific contract CB01 is currently in its final stages of execution, while CB02 is now being launched. Both contracts have been awarded to the consortium IDOM/ENUSA/PROCON, the main contractor under the Framework Agreement. This continuity reflects the effective planning of the work and highlights the strategic importance of consultancy services in radiological and industrial safety within the overall IFMIF-DONES project.

A key pillar for facility safety

The activities included in this Framework Agreement provide IFMIF-DONES with specialised support in safety engineering, which is essential for defining, developing and consolidating the safety requirements associated with the facility’s systems, as well as for licensing and permitting processes with the Nuclear Safety Council and other authorities.

These requirements have a direct impact on the design of critical systems and on compliance with the regulatory standards necessary for the future construction and operation of the infrastructure.

The execution of CB01 has enabled progress in defining and validating safety requirements for plant systems, while CB02 focuses on documentation and engineering work related to the licensing of the Injector in Phase 0.

Strong support from ERDF funding

The development of this Framework Agreement and its associated contracts is made possible through co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), channelled through the DONES TOPS and DONES BASE agreements.

This European support is essential to provide the technical capabilities required to ensure the highest standards of safety, quality and regulatory compliance in a leading scientific facility such as IFMIF-DONES.

The successful execution of CB01 and CB02 also reinforces IFMIF-DONES’ commitment to the proper management of public funds, transparency, and the recognition of the European Union’s contribution to the development of strategic large-scale scientific infrastructures.
