IFMIF-DONES strengthens its positioning in the health sector at Galicia Biodays 2026

The Head of Executive Office of the DONES Programme, José Aguilar, participated on 6–7 May in the third edition of Galicia Biodays, held in Vigo, one of the leading events in Europe in the field of biotechnology and life sciences.

As part of the programme, José Aguilar took part in the roundtable discussion entitled “Scientific infrastructures and disruptive technologies for the new medicine”, a forum aimed at analysing the role of large-scale research infrastructures and emerging technologies in the development of innovative healthcare solutions.

The session brought together leading figures from the scientific, technological and investment ecosystems, including:
  • José Manuel Silva, Patron of the Kaertor Foundation
  • José Aguilar, Head of the Executive Office of the DONES Programme
  • Juan Cambeiro Cuns, Head of Applied Quantum Projects at Telefónica
  • Montserrat Vendrell, Partner at Asabys Partners
During the discussion, participants addressed key issues related to the contribution of major scientific infrastructures to the advancement of medicine, as well as the impact of disruptive technologies across fields such as biotechnology, health investment and advanced therapies.

Beyond the roundtable, IFMIF-DONES’ participation in Galicia Biodays provided an opportunity to establish new strategic connections with stakeholders from the biotechnology, healthcare and investment sectors, as well as to present the potential of the infrastructure in the field of health. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on DONES’ ability to generate high-value scientific knowledge and its potential transfer to applications in areas such as radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear medicine and the development of advanced materials with medical relevance, in line with the role of the DONES Programme as a key infrastructure for advanced materials research and technological innovation.

Galicia Biodays continues to consolidate its position as a key meeting point for fostering collaboration between companies, research centres, investors and public administrations, promoting synergies to address major challenges in health and life sciences.

IFMIF-DONES would like to express its special thanks to the Galician Life Sciences Business Technology Cluster (Bioga) for the excellent organisation of the event and for creating a high-level forum that promotes innovation, public-private collaboration and the development of new opportunities in the health sector.

Through its participation in this forum, IFMIF-DONES reinforces its position as a leading international scientific infrastructure and its commitment to knowledge transfer and multidisciplinary collaboration.
