Tender for the construction of the UGR-DONES Centre
The UGR-DONES research centre has been conceived as a space in which to develop research of excellence in the field of the project. This building, which will be a pioneer in Spain, will favour the development of scientific and technological activities that optimise the exploitation and operation of the facility but do not require continuous interaction with it. Its works have already been tendered. In this video you can see what it will look like.
Located on a plot of approximately 4,500 m2 in front of the accelerator facility in the Metropolitan Technology Park of Escúzar, the centre will have an estimated surface area of 3,500 m2. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2023.
This centre has been planned with the aim of bringing together research groups from different areas (Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Computer Science, etc.) that will develop researching lines to promote the generation of knowledge and optimise the possibilities of using the accelerator’s infrastructure.
Some of the most relevant scientific-technological areas to be developed in the UGR-DONES Centre are the following:
- The development of different advanced diagnostic systems in the different areas of the facility (accelerator beam, lithium loop, radiation diagnostics, gases, radioactive isotopes, etc.).
- The preparation of experiments in different technological areas to be developed in the future facility (each experiment to be developed will require a multidisciplinary team interacting with interested scientists to prepare the associated engineering designs and interpretation).
- The study of materials of interest for fusion and other technological areas.
The UGR-DONES Centre is one of the multiple lines of action that the University of Granada has developed around the IFMIF-DONES project. You can find out about the rest of the initiatives here.
