The international team of IFMIF-DONES has begun its activity this week at the DONES Hub, a building located at the main site of the scientific infrastructure in Escúzar (Granada).

The commissioning of this facility marks a new milestone in the development of the project and represents a significant step forward in consolidating IFMIF-DONES at its final location. The DONES Hub already features 100 fully equipped workstations designed to host the organisation’s staff, fostering the integration of international teams and the coordinated development of its various areas of activity.

The DONES Hub is one of the buildings constructed by the Research Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) for IFMIF-DONES under the DONES PRIME project, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Its commissioning marks a significant step in establishing the support infrastructure required for the future operation of the scientific facility.

Designed to support management, engineering, coordination, and future operational activities, the DONES Hub serves as the new nerve center for an infrastructure that is strategic for Europe and pivotal to the development of fusion energy.

This new phase reinforces IFMIF-DONES’ commitment to advancing a unique international facility, set to play a crucial role in the development of materials that will enable future fusion power plants and contribute to a safe, sustainable and virtually inexhaustible energy source.
