His presentation focused on the radiological safety approach of IFMIF-DONES and its safety design criteria, which could be applicable or extrapolated to certain fusion devices in the future. In this regard, IFMIF-DONES is a key asset in positioning Spain among the limited group of countries that develop both regulatory frameworks and practical expertise in fusion safety.
The seminar, held from 17 to 19 February, brought together experts and leaders shaping the future of fusion energy worldwide, including representatives from scientific facilities, private initiatives, and regulatory bodies. The objective was to foster collaboration and identify common ground regarding the safety of fusion devices and their regulatory environment, with a view to their deployment as an emerging commercial industry.
Alongside Claudio Torregrosa, the IFMIF-DONES delegation included Blanca Biel, Director of the UGR-DONES programme, as well as DONES PhD researchers Manuel A. Vázquez Barroso and Alberto Artacho.
