IFMIF-DONES hosts the RaDIATE world meeting

The 9th Annual RaDIATE Collaboration Meeting (Radiation Damage In Accelerator Target Environments) is in Granada until Wednesday. Organised by IFMIF-DONES and CIEMAT, it is attended by around twenty experts in accelerator radiation from universities and research centres in Europe, the United States, and Japan.
RaDIATE is an international initiative led by FermiLab (USA), which has the collaboration of 80 participants from more than 20 institutions worldwide.
The main objective of the meeting is to identify methods to mitigate radiation damage in the materials used in accelerators so that they can progressively increase their power.
Granada was chosen as the venue for the forum because IFMIF-DONES will be the most potent accelerator built to date in the world (5 MW). The challenges associated with its design and construction facilitate the creation of synergies between the scientific communities studying the effects of radiation on accelerator materials and fusion materials, establishing IFMIF-DONES as a crucial link between both fields.
During this meeting, several disciplines will be addressed, such as the design and operation of high-power target facilities, radiation damage studies and related simulations, the coordination of experimental proton irradiation campaigns, the development of radiation-tolerant materials, and associated remote manipulation techniques.
