His keynote address was entitled “Major Scientific Facilities: Answers Full of Questions”. During his presentation, Weber reflected on the role of major scientific infrastructures in advancing knowledge and the need to tackle technological challenges that require decades of research, investment and international cooperation.
The IFMIF-DONES Director placed particular emphasis on the potential of nuclear fusion to meet growing energy demand, as well as one of its main challenges: developing materials capable of withstanding the extreme conditions inside future fusion reactors.
In this context, he highlighted the strategic importance of IFMIF-DONES, a long-term scientific and technological commitment that positions Spain at the forefront of a key field for the future of energy.
Through the Global Technology Forum, the AEC promotes cross-sector dialogue to explore the capabilities needed to strengthen Spain’s and Europe’s competitiveness and technological standing. It aims to create a meeting point for those who develop technology, those who integrate it into their organisations, those who invest in it, and those who shape the institutional framework in which it is deployed.
