The Director of the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium, Ángel Ibarra, and Deputy Director Moisés Weber took part in the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG), held on 14 October in Chengdu, China. The event was co-chaired by the China Atomic Energy Authority and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Ángel Ibarra chaired the panel “Current Status of Fusion: Bridging the Gaps.” The session brought together diverse perspectives on the progress of fusion energy in research, technological development, and industrial engagement. Panelists discussed advances in public programs and private initiatives, as well as the increasing role of international collaboration and investment. The session explored how these developments are shaping the path toward fusion demonstration and deployment.
Recent scientific and technological advances in fusion research have sparked great interest among policymakers, scientists, investors, and the general public, making the acceleration of fusion energy development a crucial area of focus. The IAEA’s World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG) embodies this global ambition, providing a platform to coordinate and promote international efforts toward achieving fusion energy.
