ESFRI analyses the role of IFMIF-DONES in the European Green Deal
Chairman of the DONES-PreP project Council, Tonči Tadić, participates in the conference ‘European Research Infrastructures for a Smarter Future’
The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) held the online conference ‘European Research Infrastructures for a Smarter Future’ last May 15, hosted by the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The conference, designed to explore the potential of European research infrastructures to make a meaningful impact on the European strategic agenda and supporting economic and social transitions, was attended by Tonči Tadić, chairman of the DONES-PreP project Council, who presented the role that IFMIF-DONES could have in the European Green Deal.
Tonči Tadić’s presentation was included in the panel ‘Green Deal and Energy Transition’ and analysed the roadmap of the EU towards fusion energy, reviewed the current state of the main infrastructures related to this roadmap (i.e. DEMO and ITER), and presented the crucial role of IFMIF-DONES to test the materials to be used in nuclear reactors.
The chairman of the DONES-PreP Council reminded the attendees that IFMIF-DONES will not only be a key facility in the road towards fusion energy but will also lead to the development of technological advancements in other areas. In addition, it will have a positive impact in areas that are key for the European Green Deal, such as medicine, physics, nuclear physics facilities or industry.
