Rome (Italy), 17 July 2026. Representatives from DONES, Fusion for Energy (F4E) and the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) met in Rome for the “DONES–F4E–INFN Coordination Meeting”, focused on the ongoing development of key systems of the IFMIF-DONES particle accelerator.

The meeting brought together technical and management experts from the three organizations to review progress and coordinate activities related to the procurement and development of the five cryomodules that will form the Superconducting Radio-Frequency Linear Accelerator (SRF Linac) of IFMIF-DONES.

The SRF Linac represents one of the most sophisticated and strategic components of the facility. This system accelerates particles to their nominal energy before they strike the lithium target, generating the high-intensity neutron flux required for fusion materials testing. As such, it constitutes one of the core subsystems of the IFMIF-DONES accelerator and a unique technological asset within the international fusion landscape.

Discussions during the meeting covered technical, managerial and organizational aspects associated with the cryomodules and their integration into the accelerator, highlighting the close cooperation established between DONES, F4E and INFN. The continuous exchange of expertise and coordinated efforts among the three institutions remain essential to the successful implementation of this pioneering scientific infrastructure.

The meeting also underscored the strong spirit of collaboration shared by all teams involved and their commitment to advancing the project through coordinated international cooperation. This partnership continues to play a key role in the development of one of the world’s most ambitious research infrastructures supporting the future deployment of fusion energy.
