Barcelona Supercomputing Center organises webinar on IFMIF-DONES with almost 150 participants
The technical director of IFMIF-DONES, Ángel Ibarra, was invited to talk about the project, which is key in the development of fusion energy
Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) gathered last May 20 almost 150 people interested in learning about the IFMIF-DONES project and its role in the development of fusion energy at an online conference organised under the auspices of the FusionCAT project. The director for the Division for Fusion Technologies at CIEMAT and director of the DONES-PreP project, Ángel Ibarra, discussed the background of DONES together with its present status and near-future plans, reviewing in detail the roadmap of the scientific facility that the European Union seeks to build in Escúzar (Granada).
The Fusion Group at BSC organised this webinar given its relevance to the FusionCAT project that it coordinates and the growing general interest in this project, key in the race towards fusion energy. As a matter of fact, the online meeting was attended by a considerable number of researchers and experts of different profiles and from multiple countries.
The webinar was chaired by Joan Farnós, R&D Project Manager and responsible for Business Development and Technology Transfer at BSC. Mervi Mantsinen, leader of the Fusion research group at BSC and of the FusionCAT project also attended the webinar.
After the talk, the floor was opened for questions and participants inquired among other aspects about the business opportunities that the IFMIF-DONES project offers and about the technologies required for its construction and development.
