On 19th and 20th October, the Granada Science Park will host the ‘Second DONES Users Workshop’, attended by a hundred scientists and technicians from 17 countries. The main objective of the scientific meeting of the “DONES Users”, which aims to be repeated on an annual basis, is to ensure that the IFMIF-DONES scientific infrastructure can be used by the most exhaustive and complete community of users possible so that they can carry out experiments practical for research in different areas of knowledge.
During the symposium, the future uses of IFMIF-DONES will be analysed, such as the qualification of materials for the different international fusion programmes, the medical and industrial applications of neutrons, the validation of tritium-related technologies or the possibility of having a neutron time-of-flight facility at IFMIF-DONES, beneficial to extend the range of experiments that can be carried out in Granada.
The speakers will be international experts such as G. Pintsuk, M. Rieth, D. Rapisarda, A. Ibarra, W. Królas, A. Letourneau, J. Praena, D. Cano-Ott, M. Lewitowicz, F. Arbeiter, E. Diegele, A. Kasugai, H. Tanigawa, A. Maj or G. Pintsuk, among others.
The symposium aims to consolidate the International DONES User Community, representative of the different scientific and technological areas that could be interested in IFMIF-DONES. This community comprises individuals, institutions or companies interested in using the unique capabilities that the particle accelerator in Escúzar (Granada) will offer.
Initially, one of its primary functions will be to establish a stable communication link between DONES engineering activities and future users so that the requirements coming from potential users can be evaluated in terms of technical feasibility, ease of implementation and available budget.
As the first step towards achieving these objectives, the Second DONES Users Workshop will create a permanent DONES Users Committee, which will formally interact with the newly created DONES Programme Team.
