Alcalá la Real to host an event on the opportunities IFMIF-DONES offers Andalusia’s industry

“IFMIF-DONES: Innovation and European Opportunities for Andalusia’s Industry” is the title of the event taking place in Alcalá la Real (Jaén) on 19 November. The Andalusian Council of Chambers of Commerce organises it, in collaboration with the Industry Office, the Andújar Chamber of Commerce, the Alcalá la Real City Council, and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology and Innovation (CDTI), as part of the Andalusian European Information Network.

The event aims to bring Andalusian companies closer to the business, innovation and technological collaboration opportunities associated with IFMIF-DONES, Spain’s largest scientific infrastructure, with an investment exceeding €1 billion. It will provide a practical overview of the project’s role in Andalusia’s technological and industrial transformation, as well as the opportunities arising from participation in major European scientific initiatives.

The programme will begin with institutional welcome addresses by Antonio Marino Aguilera Peñalver, Mayor of Alcalá la Real; Mercedes León Lozano, Managing Director of the Andalusian Council of Chambers of Commerce; and Javier Camello Sequera, President of the Andújar Chamber of Commerce.

At 11:15 a.m., Moisés Weber, Director of the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium, will deliver a presentation entitled “IFMIF-DONES: Present, Future and Opportunities for Industry”. His talk will cover the project’s strategic vision, its upcoming milestones and the outlook for forthcoming public procurement processes and contracts.

The next session, “Connecting Science and Industry: A Global Perspective”, will focus on the links between the scientific and business communities. It will be delivered by Belén Del Cerro, Spanish Industrial Liaison Officer (ILO) for ITER and IFMIF-DONES at CDTI, and Roberto Álvarez, Chief Operating Officer of the Industry Office. Their presentation will address technology transfer, scientific and industrial capabilities, and opportunities for collaboration with companies.

At 12:30 p.m., Juan Fernández, Head of Development and Services at the Industry Office, will give a presentation entitled “Business Opportunities in the Big Science Industry: Procurement, Tenders and Funding”. His talk will focus on how companies can access this market and the opportunities associated with IFMIF-DONES and other major scientific and technological infrastructures.

The Industry Office, as a platform connecting science, industry and the region, will play a prominent role in the event, which aims to help companies engage with the DONES ecosystem and explore the collaboration and procurement opportunities associated with the project.

The event is aimed at companies in construction, engineering, and technological services; component manufacturers and businesses specialising in metal fabrication, die-making, machining, and instrumentation; providers of industrial maintenance, safety, and support services; as well as technology centres, universities, and other innovation stakeholders.
