On June 16, the Escúzar Town Council granted the building permit to the IFMIF-DONES Spain Consortium, marking a key milestone that will enable construction work on the international scientific infrastructure to begin this summer at its designated site.
This authorization represents a decisive step forward for the IFMIF-DONES project, the result of intensive joint efforts between the Consortium’s technical team, the technical services of Escúzar Town Council, and the Provincial Council of Granada. Close institutional and technical coordination among all parties has been essential to successfully completing this administrative process.
The granting of the permit also ensures compliance with one of the most significant milestones of the DONES Programme: the start of on-site construction, scheduled for August 2026. This reinforces the project’s steady progress and Spain’s commitment to advancing fusion energy development.
With this development, IFMIF-DONES continues to consolidate its position as a strategic infrastructure at both European and international levels, further establishing Granada as a leading hub for research in fusion energy.
