Visit of QST and Fusion for Energy to IFMIF-DONES

IFMIF-DONES received a visit on February 3rd from a delegation of QST (National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology, Japan) and Fusion for Energy (F4E) as part of a technical working session focused on monitoring project progress, coordinating activities between DONES and LIPAc, and strengthening technical collaboration.

The visit agenda included a technical tour of the prototypes currently in operation at the Escúzar (Granada) facilities. In addition, the DONES team presented an update on the project status, covering key aspects of design, planning, risk management, and progress on the main work packages.

A central element of the session was the joint review and analysis of the expected lessons learned from the LIPAc (Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator) programme, with the aim of assessing their effective transfer to the technical and strategic planning of IFMIF-DONES. This discussion made it possible to identify opportunities for design optimization, mitigation of technological risks, and improvements in system integration and validation processes.

The visit represented a key opportunity to strengthen coordination between QST, F4E, and IFMIF-DONES, consolidating a cooperation framework based on knowledge exchange, operational experience, and the alignment of approaches in the field of accelerator and fusion technologies. This joint work is essential to move forward in a coordinated manner towards the construction and operation of an internationally leading scientific infrastructure.
