Ángel Ibarra participates in the IAEA’s fusion energy meeting in Rome

The director of the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium, Ángel Ibarra, participated in the first ministerial meeting of the World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Rome on 6 November.

The WFEG aims to create a global community that includes public institutions, research centres, industry and civil society. By fostering collaboration among these actors, it aims to accelerate progress towards commercial fusion and ensure that the benefits of this technology are shared equitably.

The summit focused on exploring the latest developments in fusion energy, a technology that promises a virtually limitless, carbon-free source of energy. Participants discussed strategies for fostering international collaboration, sharing knowledge and resources, and investing in research and development.

Spanish representation

In addition to Ángel Ibarra, the Spanish delegation also included the President of the National Security Council, Juan Carlos Lentijo; the Director General of the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT); and the Spanish Ambassador to Rome, Miguel Fernández-Palacios.
