Spain signs the International DONES Multilateral Agreement (MIDA) with Croatia, Japan, Italy, and Fusion for Energy to advance fusion energy development at the particle accelerator in Escúzar

The IFMIF-DONES España Consortium -composed of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Government of Spain and the Regional Ministry of University, Research and Innovation of the Government of Andalusia- signed, together with representatives from Fusion for Energy (F4E) and R&D&I centres from Croatia (RBI), Japan (QST) and Italy (INFN), the International DONES Multilateral Agreement (MIDA).

The DONES Steering Committee enhance the international collaboration by the signature of the MIDA and the adoption of key procedures

The DONES Steering Committee, the body overseeing the development of the DONES Programme, met in Madrid at the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation & Universities. This significant event brought together representatives from 17 countries, along with representatives of the European Commission, Fusion for Energy and EUROFusion, to advance the development of the world-leading neutron source facility in Escúzar, Granada.

IFMIF-DONES, at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Energy Group

The Director of the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium, Ángel Ibarra, and Deputy Director Moisés Weber took part in the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG), held on 14 October in Chengdu, China. The event was co-chaired by the China Atomic Energy Authority and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Synergies with the Andasol 3 solar thermal power plant

IFMIF-DONES staff visited the Andasol 3 solar thermal power plant on 5 November. The facility, managed and operated by Marquesado Solar, hosted the visit to provide insight into the operation of thermal oil and molten salt circuits used in this type of power plant, including aspects related to operation, maintenance, and associated safety protocols.

The third edition of the IAEA’s World Fusion Outlook presents a selection of recent achievements in fusion energy, outlines some of the dozens of fusion plant concepts currently at various stages of development worldwide, highlights global efforts in fusion energy development and discusses for the first time the global outlook for fusion energy deployment.

IFMIF-DONES, at the heart of Madrid

From 4 to 18 December, the National Museum of Natural Sciences of the CSIC hosted the exhibition “Spain and Fusion Energy”, an outreach showcase created by CIEMAT to bring to the general public the meaning, progress and potential of fusion energy, as well as the role Spain will play in its development in the coming years.
