The Government of Spain secures Italy’s commitment to fund IFMIF-DONES

The Spanish Government, through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, reached an agreement with the Italian Government, through the Ministry of Universities and Research, which strengthens Italy’s commitment to participate in and finance the construction of the IFMIF-DONES particle accelerator in Escúzar (Granada).

Quinta Alegre Palace, headquarters of the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium

The Granada City Council has ceded a space on the first floor of the Quinta Alegre Palace as the headquarters of the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium. The announcement of the cession was made on 10 June by the Mayoress, Marifrán Carazo, during the first meeting of the IFMIF-DONES Local Forum, held in the municipal building in the Cervantes neighbourhood.

The Spanish Government earmarks 40 million for the development of fusion energy technologies for IFMIF-DONES

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has launched the tender project to allocate 40 million euros to the development of fusion energy technologies for the IFMIF-DONES particle accelerator, a unique infrastructure being built in Escúzar (Granada).

More than 200 companies interested in the accelerator’s business opportunities

More than 200 companies, 90% from outside Granada, were interested in the business and work opportunities arising from the construction and subsequent operation of the particle accelerator of the IFMIF-DONES project during the 2nd R&DONES FORUM.

The 1st IAA-DONES Meeting confirms the business opportunities of the knowledge economy

The scientific and technological alliance between the IAA-CSIC and IFMIF-DONES will increase collaboration between the two scientific communities representing research excellence. These conclusions were made clear at the “1st Meeting between the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) and the IFMIF-DONES Consortium”, held today at the IAA-CSIC with the collaboration of the Granada Chamber of Commerce and the Industry Office.

IFMIF-DONES and DIFFER will explore avenues for collaboration

A delegation from the Netherlands Institute for Fundamental Energy Research (DIFFER), led by its Fusion Director, Marco de Baar, visited us on March 11. During the meeting, both organizations presented their capabilities to explore different avenues of cooperation within the DONES project, mainly in the modelling of complex systems.

We attended the 3rd International Conference on Fusion and Plasma in Seoul

Our director, Ángel Ibarra, attended the 3rd International Conference on Fusion and Plasma, where he presented the IFMIF-DONES project in an invited plenary talk. The scientific meeting took place in Seoul between 24 and 28 June.

Active scientific production around IFMIF-DONES

IFMIF-DONES continues to be the subject of numerous specialised articles. The two publications reviewed below are an example of the ongoing scientific production of international research groups on the future particle accelerator in Escúzar (Granada).

Ángel Ibarra to speak at the International Conference on Radiation Applications


"Irradiation Facility Relevant for Fusion Materials: IFMIF-DONES" was the title of Ibarra's presentation, which took place on 11 June at the plenary session.

The 2nd DONES Xcitech School confirms its international positioning

The coincidence in Granada during the same week of 33 prestigious speakers from 11 countries and 40 students from 8 underlines the international positioning achieved by the 2nd DONES Xcitech School. “We are delighted with the result of this edition because it is tough to gather a panel of world-class speakers in the same space and time,” says Blanca Biel, co-director of DONES Xcitech School.

We presented DONES ConP1 at the IPAC 24 World Congress held in Tennessee

Once again, IFMIF-DONES España was present at IPAC 24 (International Particle Accelerator Conference), the most important international event for the particle accelerator field and industry worldwide. Its 15th edition occurred in Nashville, Tennessee (USA), from 19 to 24 May 2024.

Susana Clement receives recognition from ‘Women in DONES’ collective

The Alhambra witnessed the recognition that the collective ‘Women in DONES’ (WiD) paid to Susana Clement, Acting Head of Broader Approach Department at Fusion for Energy. This tribute was held during the 2nd DONES Xcitech School, organised in Granada by the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium and the University of Granada, from 21 to 26 April.

Schools in Granada and Alicante host informative talks on IFMIF-DONES

Schools in Granada and Alicante have recently hosted two informative talks on IFMIF-DONES and fusion energy.

We participated in training and youth entrepreneurship in rural areas

We love to contribute to promoting training and entrepreneurship among young students, especially in rural areas. Our Programme Office Leader, José Aguilar, participated last 18th April in the IV Meeting of Vocational Training, Plastic Arts and Design of Eastern Andalusia, organised by the IES Pedro Jiménez Montoya, in Baza (Granada).

Partnerships to prioritise Science in the classroom

The popularisation of Science is part of our DNA. For this reason, IFMIF-DONES’ alliance with educational centres that promote Science in their classrooms is permanent.

The DONES Runners team participates in charity races

The DONES Runners team continues to participate in different competitions. Last Sunday, April 14, several of its members ran the XVIII Carrera Memorial Padre Marcelino, in Granada.

“The potential of IFMIF-DONES in medical research is very promising”

Inmaculada Molina (Granada, 1977) is a graduate in Biological Sciences, trained at the Universities of Granada, Wales-Swansea (UK), La Laguna (Tenerife) and Uppsala (Sweden), with further training in Management Fundamentals (Cornell University) and Project Management (Google, ESADE, College of Europe), among others. Currently, he works as Senior Project Manager at the IFMIF-DONES España Consortium.
